Donald Myers Education Center, Saratoga SpringsWork Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am-2:45pm (part-time up to full-time)The Teaching Assistant will assist the instructional program and related activities by performing relative tasks related to educational activities and providing direct instructional service to students. The Teaching Assistant will work under the general supervision of a member of the teaching staff and the appropriate administrator. This supervision will be both formal and informal.Work with individual students or groups of students on instructional projects or programs;Assist students in the use of available instructional resources and assist/developinstructional materials;Assist in the implementation of students' IEP goals and objectives and alternativetesting techniques;Implement and provide support for behavioral management strategies in instructional and non-instructional activities;Provide the teacher/supervisor with information about students which will assist in the development of appropriate learning experiences, and in the evaluation of students;Assist and supervise students during all instructional and non-instructional activities;Serve as an appropriate role model to students;Attend to health and physical needs of students and classrooms, including lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.;Provide support to students and staff in inclusionary/mainstreaming situations; Assist with data collection, record keeping, and other clerical tasks related to classroom activities;Participate in staff development and training to maintain or develop increased professional capacity;Participate effectively as a member of the classroom instructional team;Attend faculty meetings as appropriate;Utilize specialized academic and/or occupational background to effectively assist in the instructional assignment and work independently as needed;And other such duties as may be assigned.Minimum Requirements:Graduation from high school or a minimum of 18 college credit hours completed, with 60 credit hours preferred;Certified* or certifiable* as a teaching assistant.Diverse candidates are encouraged to apply.*Certified and certifiable means that either you presently hold any level of the Teaching Assistant certificate issued by NYS Education Department OR you can obtain the introductory Teaching Assistant certificate with NYSED.
