This position involves responsibility for working with disadvantaged or at-risk youth and parents with significant mental health, social, emotional and behavioral disorders, and economic issues that impact the students' ability to be successful in their home school district. This position requires using standard mental health assessment and evaluation protocols, for intensive involvement with the classroom/program team of teacher(s), social worker(s), support staff, administration, parents, and consulting psychiatrist for evaluation, treatment plans, behavior management, consultations, and crisis intervention. This position is supervised by the Administrator for Special Programs. Supervision is not a requirement of this position. Does related work as required.Typical Work Activities:Provides individual mental health counseling and psychotherapy;Conducts clinical assessments and evaluations for children and adolescents;Develops student psychosocial histories;Writes treatment plans including Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA) and Behavioral;Intervention Plans (BIPs);Documents student(s) progress;Provides prevention activities/programs for students, staff and parents on skill development, identification and problem solving on appropriate responses; Assists students to develop skills and strategies to address issues such as parenting and career skills; problems in adolescent and family communication and functioning; relationship problems, and preventing the occurrence or re-occurrence of alcohol and substance abuse;Participates and advises on treatment planning and case management in collaboration with the teacher, Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)/Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), consulting psychiatrist and other members of the program team;Facilitates consultation and referral with other medical providers;Provides leadership to the program team in crisis intervention.Minimum Qualifications:Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling or Psychotherapy or its equivalent AND a minimum of two (2) years full-time paid experience with children in a mental health environment, and psychotherapy.Possession of a current license as a Mental Health Counselor issued by the New York State Department of Education.Preferred Skills:Can provide assessments and evaluations for students with special needs;Can write Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans with input from the educational team.Work Days: Monday - FridayLocation: TBD
