This work involves professional responsibility for maintaining and checking budgetary records and the preparation of financial reports. Work is performed under direct supervision with moderate leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment following professional accounting procedures. The work is performed using an electronic data processing system. May have general oversight over a limited number of clerical personnel. Does related work as required.Responsibilities:Prepares and maintains expenditure and budgetary control accounts and prepares reports relating to the status of such accounts;Prepares budget under the direction of the program administrator;Adjusts budget and entries in preparation of financial summaries and reports;Reviews and examines vouchers, claims and invoices, payrolls and supporting data, and account keeping records for accuracy;Prepares fiscal and operating reports;Assembles and analyzes financial and statistical information;Prepares a variety of standard or specialized reports;Prepares and assists with reports required by State or Federal agencies.Qualifications:A) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field; ORB) Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Business Administration or related field and two (2) years of experience in account keeping or financial record keeping.C) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in account keeping or financial record keeping.Note: Vacancies are filled by a certified list provided by Washington County Civil Service. Should no certified list be available, candidates appointed to this position will be serving in a provisional appointment in accordance with New York State Civil Service Law. The candidate must successfully complete a competitive examination and be eligible for appointment in accordance with Civil Service Law and the Civil Service Rules for Washington County to obtain a permanent appointment.
