The Teaching Assistant will assist the instructional program and related activities by performing relative tasks related to educational activities and providing direct instructional service to students. The Teaching Assistant will work under the general supervision of a member of the teaching staff and the appropriate administrator. This supervision will be both formal and informal.Responsibilities:Essential responsibilities and functions of the job may include but are not limited to the following:Work as an effective team memberHelp provide and maintain a safe learning environment for studentsUnderstand and anticipate students' needs during instruction and hands-on projectsAllow students to take risks with their learningAllow students time to attempt tasks independently, provide the right amount of support at the right timeLearn the subject matter (academic and performance)Review lesson plansHelp provide student accommodations as stated on IEPAssist teacher in revisiting objectives and targets to improve on lesson plansProvide feedback to the teacher on students progressUtilize behavior management/classroom management skillsQualifications: Graduation from High School or a minimum of 18 college credit hours completed, with 60 credit hours preferred. Certified* or certifiable* as a Teaching Assistant *Certified and certifiable means that either you presently hold any level of the Teaching Assistant certificate issued by NYS Education Department OR you can obtain the introductory Teaching Assistant certificate with NYSED.
