Our ideal candidate will inspire middle schoolers (Grades 6-8) by: Cultivating a Growth Mindset: Transitioning students from learning to read to reading to learn by delivering innovative, interdisciplinary ELA lessons that empower early adolescents to analyze complex texts with confidence and express themselves creatively. Supporting Multilingual & Diverse Learners: Utilizing an asset-based approach and TESOL/ENL strategies to scaffold instruction, modify materials, and differentiate for ELLs/MLs and students with IEPs. Fostering a Responsive Culture: Creating a safe, empathetic environment tailored to early adolescents, using diverse literature that serves as both a mirror to their experiences and a window into the world. Assessing and Tracking Growth: Implementing varied, standards-based assessments that accurately measure student development, guide interventions, and celebrate academic progress. Collaborating for Holistic Success: Working closely with the English department, ENL teachers, and student support teams to ensure a cohesive educational experience for every child. The Ideal Candidate Possesses: A deep passion for working with the middle school age group. Exceptional communication skills and a high level of emotional intelligence. A commitment to culturally responsive-sustaining education practices. Tech-savviness to integrate digital literacy and modern instructional tools into daily lessons. Qualifications & Requirements Certification: Must hold valid New York State Certification in English Language Arts (Grades 5-9 or 7-12) Preferred: Valid NYS TESOL certification, extension, or a strong documented background in ENL instruction. Experience: Middle school classroom teaching or student-teaching experience is highly preferred.
