The West Islip UFSD has an opening for a Leave Replacement Earth Science Teacher beginning late April 2026 through the end of the 2025–2026 school year. The ideal candidate should possess a strong understanding of: - New York State Science Learning Standards (NYSSLS), particularly in Earth and Space Science - Developmentally appropriate, inquiry-based science instruction - Laboratory instruction and safety procedures, including: - General lab safety practices - Proper use of scientific tools and equipment - Scientific Method and CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) instructional practices - Use of technology to enhance instruction (e.g., Google Classroom, data collection tools, simulations) - Differentiated instruction to support diverse learners - Collaboration within a science department and interdisciplinary teams Preferred experience includes: - Teaching Regents-level Earth Science - Supporting students in data analysis, modeling and Regents preparation - Facilitating hands-on investigations aligned with NYSSLS CERTIFICATION: New York State Certification in Earth Science required
