The West Islip Union Free School District is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative professional to serve as CPSE Chairperson and Transition Coordinator. This dual-role position requires three (3) years of prior experience along with a unique blend of clinical and pedagogical expertise, deep proficiency in special education law, and compassionate leadership to assist families with critical transitions throughout the PK-12 continuum. CPSE Chairperson Leadership: Coordinate and lead Committee on Preschool Special Education (CPSE) meetings, ensuring a collaborative and compliant process for students and families. Plan Development: Oversee the creation and implementation of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans via Frontline/IEP Direct. Compliance: Maintain rigorous adherence to NYS Part 200 and Part 201 regulations, ensuring all district procedures meet state and federal mandates for Students with Disabilities. Transition Coordination Post-Secondary Planning: Coordinate transition services for secondary students, including the development of measurable post-secondary goals and transition activities within the IEP. Agency Liaison: Collaborate with adult service agencies (e.g., OPWDD, ACCES-VR) to facilitate student connections to post-secondary education, vocational training, and independent living resources. Early Childhood Transition: Manage the seamless entry of students from Early Intervention (EI) into the CPSE process. Family Guidance: Provide workshops and individual consultation to families regarding the "aging out" process and the transfer of rights at the age of majority. Professional Attributes Interpersonal Excellence: A proven track record of maintaining positive, empathetic relations with students, families, and colleagues. Detail-Oriented: Superior organizational skills necessary to manage the rigorous timelines and data reporting associated with CPSE chairing.
