West Islip High School (WIHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and qualified Health Education Teacher to serve as a long-term Leave Replacement. Join our dedicated team and contribute to a learning environment committed to excellence in education and fostering responsible citizens.The successful candidate will be responsible for the full scope of duties related to the leave replacement position, including but not limited to: Instructing high school students in mandated Health Education curriculum topics, including physical health, emotional wellness, substance abuse prevention, safety, and healthy relationships. Developing and implementing dynamic, standards-based lessons that use research-based instructional methods and foster critical thinking skills related to personal health choices. Evaluating student performance using varied assessment methods (e.g., projects, presentations, written exams) and accurately recording grades in compliance with West Islip High School policies. Establishing and maintaining a safe, positive, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to open discussion and learning about sensitive health topics. Working effectively with the instructional department, school counselors, and administrators to support the overall social and emotional well-being of the student body. Fulfilling all professional responsibilities, including attendance at relevant department meetings, faculty meetings, and supervisory duties as assigned.Qualifications: Valid New York State Teacher Certification in Health Education required Prior experience teaching Health Education at the high school level is highly desirable. Demonstrated expertise in current health topics, particularly adolescent mental health, nutrition, & fitness. Exceptional communication skills necessary for engaging with students, parents, and colleagues effectively.
