The West Islip School District has an open part-time position for American Sign Language for the 2024-25 school year. Appropriate NYS certification in ASL 7-12 is required.The West Islip UFSD seeks candidates who are well versed in the ACTFL / NYS World Language Standards and who wish to be part of a literacy based approach to teaching language. Successful candidates will be self-motivated and willing to collaborate and plan with colleagues. They will assess student progress while providing constructive feedback. Successful candidates will foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment and provide additional student support, as needed. All candidates should be passionate about teaching American Sign Language and be able to communicate effectively in ASL. The West Islip Union Free School District UFSD is actively seeking a highly qualified American Sign Language (ASL) teacher who is well-versed in the ACTFL / NYS World Language Standards and dedicated to a literacy-based approach to language education. Successful candidates will be self-motivated, collaborative and proficient in assessing student progress while providing constructive feedback. They must also demonstrate a passion for teaching ASL and possess effective communication skills in the target language. The chosen candidate will play a vital role in developing and implementing an engaging ASL curriculum, integrating ASL into cross-disciplinary literacy initiatives, have a strong awareness of Deaf Culture and foster an inclusive and respectful learning environment. At times, additional support for students may be necessary to nurture their success.
