Who We Are Looking For: A Physical Therapist to work in our school, who embraces our mission of “strengthening the well-being of people with disabilities and their families through innovative supports.” The Successful Candidate will have experience working as a Physical Therapist in a school environment, and enjoy working in a special education setting to help students use their bodies as efficiently as possible to better access the school environment and perform school tasks. RequirementsEducation/Experience: Bachelor’s (B.S.) or Master’s (M.S) degree in physical therapy from a regionally accredited college and two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Certificates and Licenses: MUST HAVE : New York State License as a Physical Therapist Essential Duties include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Reviews Physician's referral (prescription), nursing chart/school records, and students individual education plan(s). Tests and measures student's strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs as related to school based needs.Plans and prepares written treatment program based on evaluation of student data and IEP.Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain function.Instructs, motivates, and assists patient to perform various physical activities and in use of assistant and supportive devices such as crutches, canes, and prostheses.Evaluates effects of treatment at various stages and adjusts treatments to achieve maximum benefit.Makes recommendations to family and medical doctors to obtain prosthetic and orthotic devices and recommends modification to Orthotist when problems are detected at school.Additional Requirements:A valid New York State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.Required to complete, pass, and use CALM training, provided by the school, which includes deescalation strategies and approved protective holds and movements for students.
