Job Title: School Bus Driver/Automotive Mechanic HelperPosition Summary: Wheelerville is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious School Bus Drive and Automotive Mechanic Helper The ideal candidate will prioritize student safety, maintain a positive and respectful environment, and ensure reliable transportation services.Key Responsibilities Bus Driver:Safely operate a school bus on assigned routes and schedules, including pickup and drop-off of studentsMaintain discipline and ensure the safety of students during transport, including PreK and students with special needsPerform daily pre- and post-trip inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating conditionReport any mechanical issues, safety concerns, or incidents to the appropriate personnelAssist younger students or those with special needs with boarding and exiting the bus as requiredMaintain accurate records of mileage, attendance, incidents, and maintenance needsCommunicate clearly and respectfully with students, parents, and school staffAdhere to all traffic laws, district policies, and state regulations for school transportationAutomotive Mechanic Helper:Assists in minor servicing, maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipmentMaintains preventative maintenance schedule for all vehicles and arranges for timely servicingCleans parts and equipmentAssist with snow removalMaintains the needs of the bus garageOther duties may be assigned by the SuperintendentRequirements:Valid CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) with School Bus (S) and Passenger (P) endorsementsClean driving record and background checkPatience, reliability, and strong interpersonal skills, especially when working with young childrenAbility to manage student behavior calmly and effectivelyMust pass a DOT physical and drug screeningPreferred Qualifications:Prior experience driving a school bus or working with childrenBasic mechanical knowledge or vehicle maintenance experience is a plus, but not requiredMinimum Qualifications:Completion of 30 credit house in a NYS registered or regionally accredited college or university with a minimum of 6 credit hours in automotive or diesel repair or closely related fieldCompletion of Career and Technical Education Program in Automotive Technology or closely related fieldOne year of satisfactory experience in a position which shall have involved automotive maintenance and repairORAn equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by the limits of the above
