Shepardson - Superintendent of SchoolsSchool District: West Canada Valley Central School DistrictApplication End Date: May 30, 2023 Summary:The Director of Special Programs and Athletics will work in conjunction with the Superintendent to oversee the implementation of the district’s special education programs and athletics in compliance with State and Federal regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Special Education CPSE-CSE ChairpersonPlans and develops special education programs for district pre-school and school-age students.Oversees the implementation of the special education programs in collaboration with personnel and building administrators.Coordinates preparation of program budgets.Supervises and evaluates special education personnel as required.Keeps informed of all legal requirements governing special education.Responsible for scheduling all District Committee on Special Education (CSE) and Committee on Pre-School Education (CPSE) meetings.Serve as 504 Coordinator and works closely with building principals to implement accommodation plans.Develops and maintains, with the school psychologists, student reevaluation lists for all district preschool and school age students, including students enrolled in non-public schools.Works with BOCES school age students attending out of district placements.Works with transportation department and building principals in ensuring special education students are scheduled for transportation and compliant with bus safety rules.Works with office assistant to ensure letters, IEPs and Board of Education documentation is accurate and timely.Works with office assistant and registrar to ensure completion and compliance with state reporting requirements and annual performance indicators.Works with business office personnel to ensure STAC and SA-100 information is correct for state aid purposes.Grant CoordinatorServes as the District McKinney-Vento liaison. AthleticsPromote a shared vision of athletics that emphasizes character, perseverance, teamwork and sportsmanship with all stakeholders including coaches, administrators, students, parents, faculty, and community members. Cultivate relationships with parents and partnerships with community organizations in support of the athletic program.Observe and evaluate coaches to enhance performance of their duties and responsibilities.Directly in charge of social media for the Athletic Department.Supervising the High School and Middle School athletic programs including recommending policies and procedures relating to the athletic programs.Plan seasonal board reports, senior athletic awards night, and NYSPHSAA scholar athlete awards in conjunction with office staff.Development of an annual budget.Development of the interscholastic athletic schedules and official’s schedules for all contests, including transportation.Coordination of support personnel for all athletic contests, including game management, security, supervision, athletic trainer and emergency personnel and apparatus.Ensure that all applicable laws and regulations relating to athletics are applied and followed, including Title IX and other federal and state laws and regulations. General Duties and ResponsibilitiesAbility to formulate, transmit, understand, and carry out complex oral and written instructionsAbility to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff members including administrators, teachers and support staff.Knowledge and understanding of NYSED standards and NYSPHSAA handbook requirements.Ability to attend after school, evening and weekend sporting events through a flexible daily schedule. Education/Experience/ and State Certification:Minimum requirements include MA or MS Degree and additional advanced graduate study, Five years teaching experience, and valid NYS School District Administrators (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL) certification.
