The West Canada Valley Central School District is located 20 minutes from Utica, in the Kuyahoora Valley, along the banks of the scenic West Canada Creek. Approximately 650 students in grades PreK-12 are enrolled and housed in a campus facility midway between the historic villages of Newport and Middleville. The district comprises approximately one hundred square miles of beautiful country and farmlands, with its population of 6000, composed of hardworking professional, technical, and agricultural people. The district is seeking a dedicated, student-centered school counselor (grades 7-12) for a full-time, probationary, tenure-track position with a start date of September 2, 2026. Key Responsibilities Provide direct student support to address social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and outside agencies Support academic skill-building, including goal setting, organization, and effective study habits Support students to ensure alignment with graduation requirements, instructional priorities, and individual student needs and goals Guide students through college application processes, career exploration, and post-secondary planning Such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable Minimum Qualifications Valid NYS Certification in School Counseling Strong organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills Flexibility to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team Experience with scheduling and strong technological skillset Demonstrated knowledge of high school graduation requirements, transcript evaluation, and post-secondary planning Successful candidates must hold a valid NYS certification in School Counseling. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and is in accordance with the West Canada Valley Teacher Association contract.
