The Valley Stream CHSD, a beautifully diverse school community, is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for the position School Counselor Jr./Sr. High School - Leave Replacement. The successful candidate must possess valid NYS certification. Additional qualifications and responsibilities are outlined below: Assess and support students’ social, emotional, behavioral, and academic needs by providing comprehensive counseling and interventions. Deliver developmentally appropriate activities and services directly or indirectly for students. Assist with managing emotions and modeling positive interpersonal skills. Guide students in planning for high school or post-secondary options. Meet regularly with assigned students for academic planning and goal setting. Provide short-term counseling and referral of students for long-term support. Collaborate with families, teachers, administrators, and learning community. Serve as advocate for students at Individual Education Plan (IEP) meetings. Gather and/or prepare analysis to identify students’ issues, needs, and challenges. Develop relationships/build positive rapport with students, faculty, and families to promote a positive learning environment for all students. Ensure confidentiality of sensitive student records, and maintain accurate files of students, parents, and other contacts. Salary : Compensation is at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, and in accordance with the negotiated contracts between the Valley Stream CHSD and the Valley Stream Teachers’ Association (VSTA).
