The Valley Stream CHSD, a beautifully diverse school community, is currently seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Teaching Assistant - Guidance. This is a probationary/tenure track position that focuses on School Counseling services and the overall functions of the School Counseling Department. The successful candidate must possess valid NYS Teaching Assistant Certification. School Counseling certification is desirable. Additional requirements and qualifications are as follows: Assist Counselors with daily functions of the School Counseling Office. Assist classroom teachers with setting up and organizing lesson activities when necessary. Assist students by connecting them to resources in the school building including counseling services and academic interventions. Assist students with academic and/or special needs. Supervise students in the classroom when needed and throughout the school building including instructional spaces, hallways, the cafeteria, gymnasium, and/or on field trips. Work with individual students or groups of students on instructional/school counseling projects. Assist students in the use of instructional resources and devices. Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment under the direct supervision of the assigned school counselors and/or teachers. Salary: Compensation is at the discretion of the Superintendent of Schools, and in accordance with the negotiated contracts between the Valley Stream CHSD and the Valley Stream Teachers’ Association – Teaching Assistants’ Unit .
