Valley Central is a school district of almost 4200 students and approximately 1,000 full and part-time staff situated mainly in the Town of Montgomery, New York with its three villages of Maybrook, Montgomery and Walden. Students also come from the adjacent areas of the towns of Newburgh, Crawford, Wallkill, Hamptonburgh, and New Windsor. Our mission is to empower every member to achieve at high levels and embrace the joy of continuous learning.DIRECTOR OF K-12 PHYSICAL EDUCATION, HEALTH & ATHLETICS Leadership and SupervisionProvides instructional leadership for K-12 physical education and health curricula, ensuring alignment with New York State learning standards.Provides leadership and support for all athletic coaches, physical education, and health staff to foster an inclusive and equitable environment.Observes athletic games, practices, and instructional activities, providing feedback for continuous improvement.Assists in the recruitment, screening, and selection of coaching staff and department personnel.Makes final recommendations concerning the assignment of coaches for all schools in the district.Calls and conducts departmental meetings to establish and implement district athletic policies.Fosters a culture of excellence, equity, inclusion, and sportsmanship, ensuring all students have access to opportunities in athletics and wellness.Program Oversight and DevelopmentOversees the development, implementation, and evaluation of K-12 physical education and health curricula.Ensures compliance with New York State Education Department (NYSED) regulations and guidelines for physical education, health education, and interscholastic athletics.Coordinates and delivers professional learning opportunities for teachers and coaches.Develops and implements policies and procedures for interscholastic athletics and physical education programs.Supervises the establishment and operation of a sound interscholastic athletic program for all secondary schools in the district.Athletic Program AdministrationSupervises the district’s athletic programs, ensuring they align with league, conference, and state regulations.Represents the district at all league, conference, and state meetings concerning athletics.Coordinates athletic schedules, including facilities, transportation, and officials.Establishes and implements safety protocols and risk management strategies for all athletic events.Ensures a safe and welcoming environment for all participants and spectators at athletic events.Oversees admissions for athletic events.Budget and Resource ManagementDevelops and manages the physical education, health education, and athletics budget, including purchasing equipment and supplies.Determines the needs for equipment and supplies, with input from coaches, to establish a budget.Establishes and maintains a yearly inventory system of athletic and physical education equipment.Identifies facility needs and collaborates with district leadership on capital improvements.Community and Stakeholder EngagementServes as the district’s liaison with parents, community members, and local organizations regarding athletics, physical education, and health education.Coordinates with building principals on the use of indoor athletic facilities and with central administration on the use of outdoor facilities for district and community programs.Promotes student engagement and equitable access to athletics and wellness programs, ensuring all students feel valued and supported.Accepts other duties as assigned.Additional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Instruction.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.In-depth knowledge of physical education and health curricula, including instructional best practices.Expertise in athletic administration, including budgeting, scheduling, and compliance.Knowledge of New York State Education Department regulations and New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) guidelines.Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders.Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment in physical education and athletics.QUALIFICATIONS:Appropriate NYS certification as a School District Leader and Physical Education and/or Health TeacherAt least five years of successful teaching, coaching, and administrative experience preferredREPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Anticipated Start Date: July 1, 2025 or sooner.
