MAINTENANCE WORKER DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This work involves responsibility for the performance of semi-skilled tasks in helping carpenters, plumbers, electricians, painters and mechanics. Work is performed under direct supervision. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: Assists in making electrical, plumbing and heating repairs; Assists in making carpentry and masonry repairs; Assists in painting and roofing work; Performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled work; Does routine building cleaning tasks. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Working knowledge of rough carpentry, mechanical repair work, rough painting or other construction or maintenance trades; efficiency in the use of hand tools and machine tools; ability to perform semi-skilled manual tasks without constant supervision; ability to learn trade skills and methods; ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions; integrity; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Prefered previous experience as an electrician. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year of satisfactory work experience. JURISDICTIONAL CLASSIFICATION: Non-competitive among School Districts and BOCES.
