PLEASE POSTValley Stream District #30VACANCY FOR 2024-2025Director of Special Services (Probationary)We are seeking a highly educated and qualified educational leader to serve as District-wide Director of Special Services. We offer a rigorous 21st Century Learning and Culturally Responsive-sustaining curriculum aligned to the New York State Department of Education with a focus on differentiated instruction, enrichment opportunities, as well as Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). The successful candidate will demonstrate high-quality transformational, emotional intelligence, and collaborative leadership practices and skills in executing the essential duties and responsibilities outlined below. This position reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction and is provided a four-year probationary appointment. This position is a part of the Valley Stream Council of Supervisory Associations. The duties, responsibilities, and other functions as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools and/or designee, are listed below.Starting date: July 1, 2024Qualifications:NYS Certification SDL/SAS/SDA (required)Students with Disabilities/Related Services NYSED Certification (required)Prior Experience as an special education administrator (required)Requirements:Implementing and maintaining age 3-21 Special Education programs and services in conformance to district, state, and federal objectives and laws. Planning, designing, and implementing all phases of services provided by the Special Education staff. Maintaining and supporting adequate staffing to ensure objectives of programs and services are achieved within budget.Implementation of Social Emotional Learning programs that nurture the social emotional and physical well-being of all students and staff.Ensure that special education students have equitable access to effective teachers, learning opportunities, academic and social support, and other resources necessary for success. Collaborate with district and other building administrators to ensure high quality curriculum, instruction, and assessment within and across grade levels to promote special education student academic success, love of learning, the identities and habits of learners, and healthy sense of self Keeps abreast of community services and resources; develops partnerships with parents, businesses/organizations, and other agencies in order to build awareness, develop support, and share resources.Collaborates effectively with District staff, families, special education teachers, and the community for the purpose of planning, developing, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating special educational services and/or programsManages fiscal resources from District funds and special education grants, prepares budgets and directs spending, and monitors maintenance of effort, for the purpose of fiscal efficiency in providing required services.Directs the Medicaid Administrative Claiming process and direct billing of Medicaid-eligible special education services provided by the district, for the purpose of gaining fiscal resources.Strategically manage staff resources, assigning and scheduling teachers and staff to roles and responsibilities that optimize their professional capacity to address each student’s learning needs.Salary: To Be DeterminedDeadline for application: February 2, 2024Interested candidates should apply on the Online Application System (OLAS) at www.olasjobs.org/longisland Please address online cover letters to: Marcela Moran, Assistant Superintendent for Business and HR
