COOK MANAGER For the 2022-2023 school year, the Tuxedo UFSD Cafeteria Department has an opening for a cook manager to support the food service program. This position is for 10 months, and the shift is from 7:30 am – 2:30 pm. The cook manager position is responsible for the following job description: TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIESPlans, directs and participates in the preparation, cooking and distribution of food in a school cafeteria or a satellite food program;Supervises and participates in the serving of food or the transportation of meals to other schools;Supervises all food service staff;Assists with planning daily and weekly menus;Orders necessary food and supplies to meet menu requirements;Keeps records of supplies on hand;May keep records of monies spent and collected;Assists in training new employees to perform skilled food preparation procedures;Maintains time records of food service personnel;Assures maintenance of acceptable sanitary levels in food preparation procedures through instruction and visual check. FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICSThorough knowledge of the methods and techniques of food preparation and food service management; thorough knowledge of the operation of all standard kitchen equipment used in institutional kitchens; good knowledge of food values, nutrition and food costs; good knowledge of the sanitary code and public health law provisions governing school lunch programs; ability to plan and supervise the work of a small number of employees in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to keep records and make reports; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSGraduation from a standard senior high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma, and two (2) years of experience in institutional cooking. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTSCandidates employed in a school must attend ongoing continuing education/training as required by the Food and Nutrition Service of the United States Department of Agriculture. Food safety certification preferred.
