Special Education Teacher (Leave Replacement) Tuckahoe Union Free School District Position: Special Education Leave Replacement Teacher School: Tuckahoe High School Address: 65 Siwanoy Blvd., Eastchester, NY 10709 Assignment Dates: March 19, 2026 through June 16, 2026, or later as needed Application Deadline: March 10, 2026 - (Applicants will be screened on a rolling basis) Job Summary The High School Special Education Leave Replacement Teacher provides specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities, focusing on helping students access the special education curriculum, develop academic and functional skills, and prepare for post-secondary education, employment, and independent living. The teacher collaborates closely with high school administration, families, and support staff to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with state and federal regulations and provides instruction in a Life Skills Program for students who participate in alternate assessment, including academic, vocational, career, and essential skills, for students who have not been able to transition from the middle school to the high school setting due to the current age span of students in the program. Job Description The High School Special Education Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering individualized instruction that meets the diverse learning, behavioral, and emotional needs of students with disabilities. The teacher develops, implements, and monitors IEP goals; adapts curriculum and assessments; and provides accommodations and modifications to ensure student success. This position requires strong collaboration, effective communication, and a commitment to inclusive practices and student advocacy. Job Responsibilities Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) in compliance with IDEA and state regulations Provide direct instruction in academic, behavioral, and functional skill areas using evidence-based practices Modify curriculum, assignments, and assessments to meet individual student needs Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive classroom practices Conduct and interpret academic and behavioral assessments to inform instruction Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation and records Participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and multidisciplinary team meetings Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress and needs Support students with transition planning, including post-secondary education, career readiness, and life skills Implement behavior intervention plans and provide positive behavior supports Maintain a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment Stay current with best practices, special education laws, and district policies Qualifications: Required: Valid New York State certifications in Students with Disabilities (9–12) or (K-12) Applicants will be screened on a rolling basis The Tuckahoe Union Free School District, its officers, and its employees do not discriminate against any individuals, including but not limited to students, employees or applicants based on race, color, national origin, ethnicity, religion, creed, sex, gender (including gender identity and gender expression), sexual orientation, disability, age, citizenship status, marital status, partner status, genetic information, predisposing genetic characteristics, weight, military status or service, political affiliation, or domestic violence victim status.
