Professionals who can take their industry knowledge and assist in preparing students for real world experience under the general supervision of a certified teacher.Duties:A Teacher Assistant (TA) for a welding and auto technology class plays a crucial role in supporting the instructor and enhancing the learning experience for students. Here are some common duties that a TA might have in such a class:Classroom Preparation:• Set up and organize equipment and materials needed for demonstrations, labs, and lectures.• Ensure the welding and auto technology workspaces are safe, clean, and properly maintained.Assisting Demonstrations and Labs:• Assist the instructor in demonstrating welding techniques, auto repair procedures, and the use of tools and equipment.• Provide hands-on guidance and support to students during practical sessions, helping them understand and perform tasks correctly.Student Support:• Offer individualized assistance to students who need extra help with understanding concepts or completing assignments.• Answer student questions and address concerns related to both theory and practical applications.Safety Oversight:• Emphasize and enforce safety protocols and best practices in welding and auto technology environments to prevent accidents and injuries.• Monitor students during practical sessions to ensure they are following safety guidelines.• Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom atmosphere where all students feel encouraged to participate and succeed.Equipment Maintenance:• Assist in maintaining and repairing welding equipment, automotive tools, and machinery as needed.• Report any malfunctions or maintenance requirements to the instructor.Administrative Tasks:• Assist in preparing instructional materials, such as handouts, presentations, and visual aids.• Help with administrative tasks such as organizing class schedules, updating lesson plans, and tracking student progress.• Help maintain accurate records of student performance and attendance.Classroom Management:• Help maintain a productive and respectful classroom environment by managing student behavior and addressing any disruptions.Small Group or One-on-One Instruction:• Work with small groups of students or individual students who require additional instruction or practice.• Assist the instructor in monitoring students during exams or hands-on projects.Communication:• Communicate effectively with both students and the lead instructor, sharing observations, concerns, and suggestions for improvement.QUALIFICATIONS: New York State Teaching Assistant Certificate Level 1, 2, 3 or Pre-Professional required. The setting is working with high school aged students in both the classroom and lab setting.Previous experience in a teaching setting is desirable. Ability to provide a supportive and caring environment for all students. Proven success working with students with an understanding of basic principles of child development. Candidate must be able to interact comfortably with children, parents, guardians, and staff. Ability to be flexible and adjust to changes in a dynamic environment. Experience with welding or auto tech helpful but not required. Must be a team player and excellent interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and communication (orally and written) skills. Ability to understand and follow state compliance and safety procedures as well as follow specific instructions and procedures.
