Director for Special Education K-12(Probationary Track/ Effective Immediately)The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns is seeking a dedicated and experienced candidate for the position of Special Education Director, grades K-12. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge and expertise with NYS Special Education applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, as well as have a strong background with curriculum and instruction. Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent forPPS, the ideal candidate will plan, organize, and direct assigned Special Education programs; manage programs involving teachers, aides, and auxiliary staff; provide leadership covering a wide variety ofprograms (instructional and non-instructional) and disciplines, evaluate the performance of assigned personnel; interpret law, regulations, and policy/procedures to determine the best course of action. Monitor, implement, and/or direct psychological and counseling services, including, but not limited to, testing and consultation services with students, parents, and staff. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply.NEW YORK STATE CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT: School District LeaderMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Three (3) years of experience in an administrative roleTeaching and/or Instructional Coaching experience in the field of Special EducationKnowledge in areas of Behavior InterventionsStrong knowledge of federal and state special education laws, regulations, and best practices Excellent communication and problem-solving skillsKEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: Collaborate with building leadershipteams and other curriculum leaders as needed to plan, organize, control, direct, and evaluate a variety of programs, projects, and activities related to Special Education and related services. Responsible for developing and evaluating programs for Special Education students, including curriculum implementations and oversight of the evaluation process. Responsible for overseeing program management and maintaining compliance with Individual Education Plans (IEPs,) ensuring compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations. Attend conferences to stay current with the latest developments in Special Education; Plan, lead and facilitate Special Education staff meetings. Attend and participate in SEPTA committee meetings, monitor district-wide 504 services, and perform other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Pupil Services.Salary and benefits: Commensurate with experience as per the TAA contract
