The Public Schools of the Tarrytowns are seeking a passionate, self-motivated and student centered Assistant Principal for our Sleepy Hollow Middle School. The ideal candidate will provide instructional leadership, maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment, supervising staff and students, and ensuring compliance with all New York State Education Department regulations, district policies, and collective bargaining agreements. The Assistant Principal supports academic achievement, student development, school culture, and operational management within a diverse public school setting. Bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Instructional Leadership: Support the implementation of curriculum aligned with New York State Education Department learning standards. Conduct formal and informal classroom observations in accordance with the district’s APPR evaluation process. Provide instructional feedback and coaching to teachers Analyze student performance data to improve instruction and interventions Assist in the coordination of state testing, assessment practices, and academic support programs Promote culturally responsive and equitable instructional practices School Climate: Foster a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment Oversee student attendance, behavior, discipline, and restorative practices Collaborate with counselors, psychologists, social workers, and special education staff to support student needs Participate in CSE, 504, and crisis intervention meetings as needed. Supervise student activities, assemblies, arrival/dismissal, lunch periods, and extracurricular events Staff Supervision & Leadership Development Assist with master scheduling, staffing, budgeting, and daily operations Ensure compliance with federal, state, and district regulations, including Support hiring, onboarding, mentoring, and professional development initiatives Experience with restorative practices and MTSS frameworks Experience working in diverse urban, suburban, or high-needs school settings Familiarity with special education processes and ENL programming Facilitate faculty meetings, committees, and professional learning communities Promote collaboration among teachers, support staff, and families Compliance: DASA FERPA IDEA NYS testing and reporting requirements Coordinate emergency preparedness and school safety procedures Support transportation, facilities, and operational planning Family & Community Engagement: Maintain effective communication with parents and guardians Support family engagement programs and community partnerships Represent the school at district and community events Address parent concerns professionally and collaboratively Requirements : NYS SBL or SDL Certification Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience, preferably in a secondary school setting Prior administrative or teacher-leader experience Master’s in Educational Leadership, Administration or related field preferred TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Probationary EFFECTIVE: September 1, 2026 (Must be willing to contractually work 20 days over the summer July- August) Salary and benefits as per the TAA Contract.
