Salary Range: $69,184.00 - $114.111.00PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:The barbering teacher will work alongside students to help build and deliver the school’s barbering program. Identify student needs and work with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs.Teaching relevant and up to industry standards in Barbering to students in a hands-on and dynamic manner. Deliver established course curriculum and hands-on-skills based on program requirements.Assist students in obtaining hours towards their New York State Barbering License. Believe strongly that all students can learn at high levels.Actively contribute to a culture of high expectations within Southern Westchester BOCES. Be culturally responsive to students, families, and our communities. Adapt seamlessly to the complexities of the urban school environment. Establish partnerships with local businesses.Deliver performance-based objectives and outlines for course of study following NYSED curriculum guidelines and requirements.Organize practical and technical instruction, including demonstrations of skills required in the Barbering profession, lectures in theory, techniques, and terminology.Instruct students in the subject area, considering ethical approaches in Barbering. Reinforce a high level of integrity with students as they acquire specific skills in Barbering. Assist students, individually or in groups, with lesson assignments to present or reinforce learning objectives.Enforce classroom protocols, safety rules, and expectations; maintain classroom discipline; utilize effective classroom management techniques.Attend staff meetings and trainings per requirements of School Principal and Southern Westchester BOCES.Ensure all students have a minimum of 60 hours of authentic work-based-learning experiences. Work in conjunction with the Work-Based Learning Coordinator to create a variety of Work-Based Learning experiences.Update and maintain industry relevant Employability Profiles. Ensure CTE students create a portfolio that is in alignment with NYS requirements. Communicate with employers, parents, and school counselors regarding individual pupil progress.Be a role model and actively demonstrate and teach students how to behave professionally daily.Administer assessments and record assessment data. Provide grades for report cards.Chair advisory committee meetings, actively engage in the CTE re-approval process and maintain solid relationships with post-secondary and industry partners.Perform any additional duties as assigned by the building or district administrator. QUALIFICATIONS:New York State Teaching Certification: CTE: Barberingor Eligibility to apply for Initial or Transitional – A Certification.New York State License in Barbering (must be current).Minimum of 2 - 5 years’ experience as a Licensed Barber.Up-to-date knowledge and understanding of current practices and trends in the fields of Barbering.Strong communication skills and the ability to function in a fast-paced student-centered environment.
