PRIMARY PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide instruction in the Cosmetology Program. This is a two-year program that provides both classroom and practical experience for students interested in becoming employed in the field of Cosmetology and License in Cosmetology.Instruct cosmetology students in infection control, principles and practices, basics of anatomy and physiology, chemistry, scalp care, shampooing and conditioning, hair cutting, hair styling, hair coloring, bleaching and chemical texture services, and other topics related to the field.Engage students by using course and curricular resources to enhance lessons and provide meaningful experiences for students through cognitive and kinesthetic engagement activities.Instruct, lead, and facilitate the development of student learning in citizenship, teamwork, project-based learning, and collaborative problem solving.Develop and plan high quality, rigorous lessons which maximize instructional time and are relevant to student learning objectives and are in alignment with the New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and the cosmetology industry.Develop, administer, and evaluate assessments in cosmetology.Maintain student records, hours and all necessary documentation required for State Licensing.Differentiate lessons and instruction to meet the needs of all learners, including special education students.Provide individual and group instruction.Instruct pupils in appropriate safety precautions and safe operations.Establish and maintain standards of pupil conduct to provide an orderly, safe, and productive learning environment.Stay abreast of current events in cosmetology and appearance enhancements.Communicate with employers, parents and school counselors regarding individual student progress.Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in developing strategies to meet individual needs.Identify work-based learning opportunities for students that provide students mandated hours for State Licensing requirements.Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs.Assist in district follow-up studies and evaluations of programs and post-graduation data. QUALIFICATIONS:New York State Teaching Certification: CTE: Cosmetology/Barbering Grades 7 – 12.New York State License in Cosmetology (must be current)Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Licensed Cosmetologist.Prior experience in teaching in a Cosmetology Program.Or eligibility to apply for Initial or Transitional Certification.
