Posting #: CP1783 STEM Specialist - Elementary TeacherThe “STEM Specialist” role is an elementary position that supports mathematics, PLTW/science, and STEM-related initiatives in their assigned building and throughout the district. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:New York State certification in Elementary Education.Applicants must be appropriately certified prior to the start of employment.STEM SPECIALIST RESPONSIBILITIES:Co-planning, co-teaching, debriefing with K-5 classroom teachers and mathematics AIS providers with the goal of strengthening student learning and teacher practice in mathematics and PLTW/science.Planning and facilitating professional development (faculty meetings, grade-level meetings, Superintendent’s Conference Days, etc.) in mathematics and PLTW/science based on assessed needs aligned with district goals, policies, and programs for teachers in the assigned building and for teachers across the district.Building leadership capacity among the K-5 teachers who then assist other teachers in improving instruction and student learning in mathematics and PLTW/science.Mentoring and supporting tenured and non-tenured teachers.Supporting K-5 NYS Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards alignment with the Eureka Mathematics2 resource.Supporting K-5 Next Generation Learning Standard alignment with the PLTW Launch program.Supporting teachers with instructional technology integration through the use of ST Math and other resources.Increase parent engagement by holding regular building-based day and evening parent workshops related to STEM (primarily supporting parents in the mathematics standards and curriculum).Creation of enrichment curricula/strands in both mathematics and science to support enrichment of students in the building and across the district.Development and execution of an annual district-wide elementary STEM Challenge.Regular meetings with the director of career and technical education, director of mathematics, and director of science.Regular meetings with the other STEM Specialists to ensure district consistency and to build content expertise among the group.Distribution and collection of durable and consumable STEM materials including, but not limited to, Eureka Math2 workbooks, manipulatives, and PLTW Launch materials.Coordination of device availability and use (iPads, Chromebooks, etc.) to support the delivery of the PLTW Launch curriculum. Leading the preparation for and administration of the NYS assessments in mathematics and science.Curriculum writing (including revision, differentiation, pacing and presentation of materials).Summer curriculum writing may be required – compensation will be at the contractual workshop rate. Attendance at related District committee meetings.STEM Specialists are required to complete the PLTW Launch Teacher and Lead Teacher training in advance of the start of the school year.
