Our district embraces the advantages of a small-school setting, including individualized attention for students, strong relationships among staff and families, and the opportunity for meaningful leadership impact across all grade levels.The Schroon Lake Central School District is seeking an experienced, student-centered, and collaborative educational leader to serve as PreK-12 Principal. This is a unique opportunity to lead a single-building school serving students from early childhood through grade 12, working closely with the superintendent, faculty, staff, families, and community partners.Position OverviewThe PreK-12 Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the school, providing vision, supervision, and support across all grade levels. The principal is responsible for fostering a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment; supporting high-quality instruction; and promoting equitable practices that meet the needs of all learners in a rural context.Qualifications and ExperienceThe ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications and professional experiences:New York State Certification as a School Building Leader (SBL) or School District Leader (SDL), or eligibility for appropriate NYS administrative certification.Classroom teaching experience, with a demonstrated understanding of effective instructional practices and the realities of teaching and learning.Knowledge of current trends in education, including research-based instructional practices, assessment, social-emotional learning, and college and career readiness.Demonstrated understanding of all three grade bands: PreK-5, grades 6-8, and grades 9-12, and the developmental, academic, and social-emotional needs of students at each level.Strong knowledge of equity-focused practices, particularly as they apply to rural schools and communities, including culturally responsive instruction, inclusive practices, and supports for diverse learners.Curriculum leadership experience, including alignment to New York State Learning Standards, vertical and continuous curriculum improvement.Evidence of data-based educational planning, including the use of multiple data sources to inform instructional decisions, interventions, program evaluation, and school improvement initiatives.Desired Leadership AttributesThe successful candidate will also demonstrate:A collaborative leadership style that values shared decision-making and builds trust among staff, students, and families.Strong communication skills and the ability to engage meaningfully with a small, close-knit school community.A commitment to student-centered decision-making and continuous improvement.The ability to balance instructional leadership with daily operational responsibilities in a single-building PreK–12 setting.An appreciation for rural education and the unique strengths and challenges of a small school district.Application InformationApplications and inquiries should be addressed to Superintendent Kemm Pemrick at kpemrick@slwildcats.org and CCed to ldezalia@slwildcats.org.
