JOB DESCRIPTION:The Schoharie Central School District has an opening for an anticipated probationary Elementary Special Education position for the 2024-2025 school year.OPENING:1.0 Probationary Elementary Special Education teacher GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:New York State certification in Special Education.Be “highly qualified” and have: A Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field and certification in Special Education; or a Bachelor’s Degree and certification in Special Education.1 to 2 years of successful classroom teaching experience preferred.Additional certification in English, Math, Science, Social Studies highly preferredBe committed to meeting the needs of a diverse set of learners.Have a track record of being a team player and community minded. QUALIFICATIONS:Valid state teaching certification in Special EducationCertification in a core content area highly preferredDemonstrated ability to work effectively with students with disabilities and their familiesKnowledge of best practices in special education instruction and assessmentExperience with assistive technology and other specialized equipment RESPONSIBILITIES:Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with disabilitiesProvide direct instruction to students with disabilities in a range of subject areasMonitor and track student progress and make adjustments to instruction as neededCommunicate regularly with parents and guardians to provide updates on student progress and solicit inputBuilds positive and collaborative working relationships with colleagues;Practices patience with all students, families and colleagues;Always seeking new ways to teach students the way they learn.Participate in the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans for students with disabilities in elementary schoolJob responsibilities are inclusive of all aspects of the sped continuum (co-taught, resource room, direct/indirect consultant)Attend IEP meetings and other meetings related to the education of students with disabilitiesMaintain accurate records of student progress, behavior, and attendanceCOMPENSATION:Salary commensurate with experience according to Schoharie Teachers Association Contract.
