ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT SCOTIA-GLENVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOLThe Assistant Principal at the Scotia-Glenville Senior Middle School is a 12-month position and is a part of the Scotia-Glenville Administrators Association Unit. Broad Function Under the supervision of the Middle School Principal, the Assistant Principal directs and supervises school policies in a manner consistent with legal requirements and sound educational practices. Preferred Qualifications The Assistant Principal must hold New York State certification as a School Administrator Supervisor (SAS), School Building Leader (SBL) and School District Leader (SDL). A minimum of five years of successful classroom teaching is required. Administrative experience is preferred.Duties and Responsibilities General Responsibility:The Assistant Principal serves in the absence of the Principal.Staff Supervision and Evaluation:Evaluate and supervise teachers as assigned by the Principal on the annual evaluation schedule.Direct supervisory assignments for all staff members.Share responsibility for:recruitment and hiring of certificated and non-certificated staffsupervision and evaluation of staff of certificated and non-certificated staffrecommendations regarding the granting of continuance or tenure, as directed by the PrincipalOversee the orientation of new staff members and substitute teachers.Oversee the assignment of staff collateral responsibilities.Approve the assignment of Teaching Assistants as substitutes during the instructional day in the absence of the principal.Assign staff members to supervisory duties.Supervise and evaluate clerical personnel assigned to the Assistant Principal’s office.Student Discipline and School Safety:Assist in the supervision of all school sponsored activities with the Principal.Share the supervision of the building with the Principal until 4:00 pm daily.Organize and direct an effective program of student management.Contact the parents or guardians of disruptive students as a means of developing home/school cooperation toward overcoming behavioral problems.Recommend the suspension of students for disruptive behavior.Conduct parent conferences for pending disciplinary actions.Recommend referrals to Family Court for students assigned to caseload.Represent the District in PINS- related matters for students assigned to caseload.With the aid of student-faculty committees, maintain and revise the high school Code of Conduct.In accordance with state law and district policies and regulations, direct student attendance procedures, including investigations of illegal absence and truancy.Supervise the emergency exiting procedures for fire emergencies.Supervise the loading of school busses and for regulations controlling student behavior on busses.Administrative Responsibilities:Share supervision of Middle School program with PrincipalMeet weekly with the Office Team which includes counselors, principal, psychologist, social worker and nurse.Create and oversee the scheduling of final examinations and NYS assessments.Share responsibility for the Middle School Inquiry Team with the Principal.Serve as the Summer School Principal which includes creating the summer school schedule, working with Academic Heads in hiring summer school staff and create the summer school report to the BOE.Attend team meetings as needed.Chair the Shared Decision Making committee and submit minutes each month.Update the Substitute Orientation handbook and Faculty Handbook with the Principal.Use administrative software to analyze and compile data for VADIR, BEDS and district reports as directed by the Principal.Oversee attendance procedures.Review student progress reports and report cards.Administer distribution and collection of forms as required by district policies.Perform such other duties as may be assigned by the Principal.Attend all administrative meetings as directed by the Superintendent.Committee Service:Serves as the Principal’s liaison on the Middle School crisis team.Alternate serving on the district’s Professional Development Committee with Principal.Attend other meetings as determined by the Principal.Authority The Assistant to the Middle School Principal is directly responsible to the Principal for the proper conduct of assigned duties and responsibilities.
