ABOUT OUR DISTRICT:The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and he is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of school leaders and teachers to partner with him in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 34 schools and 4 alternative education programs, serving 21,000+ students Pre-K-12 of whom 77% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 18% are served by the Office of Special Education and 78% are students of color.Position Summary:The McKinney-Vento Coordinator is responsible for overseeing and implementing the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act to ensure compliance with laws, codes, and regulations with the identification, enrollment, and support of students experiencing homelessness. This role involves collaboration with schools, community-based organizations, and various stakeholders to provide essential services and resources to eligible families and students, promoting educational stability and success.Department: Office of Student Support ServiceReports To: Director of Student Support Services/McKinney Vento LiaisonResponsibilities:Updates the McKinney-Vento policy and ensures practices of immediate enrollment and full participation of children and youth experiencing homelessness, as well as compliance with all laws and regulations.Ensures compliance with district, state and federal laws and regulations regarding McKinney-Vento and Foster Care.Understand and manage the procedures for processing documentation for McKinney-Vento for the district, including the NYS required documentation and school electronic record keeping system.Provide technical assistance to district/school staff, families, and community partners on the McKinney-Vento identification and enrollment proceduresEnsure immediate enrollment of homeless students, even if they lack typically required documents in compliance with Federal RegulationsCollaborate with school staff to remove barriers forparticipation in school activities allowed through MV eligibilityServe as a liaison between the school district and external partners to streamline services and resourcesOrder, manage, and coordinate the distribution of supplies and resources (e.g., school supplies, clothing, hygiene products) to students and families in need and eligible for MV support services.Prepare and submit reports on program effectiveness, student progress, and compliance with federal and state regulations.Provide training and resources to school staff on the McKinney-Vento ActQualifications:New York State Certificate in Education Administration (School District Administrator or School District Leader). Knowledge of school and district procedures, rules and regulations.Ability to work with various community agencies.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skillsSPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This is a 12-month position.
