ABOUT THIS POSITION:The Assistant Director of Mental Health Services is responsible for assisting the Director of Mental Health in leading strategy across SCSD to ensure the mental health needs of all students are met, including the planning, development, organization, management implementation and supervision of mental health and wellness services and programs, along with other initiatives of the district. The Assistant Director will collaboratively work with the Director of Mental Health to develop and implement wellness, social-emotional learning, and mental health support systems with community agencies and human services providers to support students and families. REPORTS TO: Director of Mental Health DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Assist in the planning and coordination of family workshop sessions on social emotional learning and mental health for families in collaboration with Family and Community Engagement DepartmentAssist in the implementation and monitoring of SEL initiatives across all grade levels;Assist in maintaining effective collaboration structures between mental health providers, community-based organizations, and key stakeholders (families, teachers, students);Provide crisis intervention and risk assessment, as needed;Assist in the professional development needs of SCSD school counselors PreK-12Assist with the collaboration with the Special Education department to ensure compliance with student counseling mandates and non-mandated counseling needs;Coordinate and facilitate the development of the cooperative efforts between schools and other community agencies in providing services to students and makes referrals;Attend meetings to maintain current knowledge of new legislation and requirements; conduct and facilitate meetings as needed;Assist in the implementation of mental health initiatives for staff and students;Support oversight of 504 procedures, including developing accommodation plans and consulting for MDRs for students with 504 plans.Perform other related duties at the request of the Chief of Student Support Services. QUALIFICATIONS:New York State Certificate in Education Administration (School District Administrator or School District Leader) OR minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience and meet civil service requirements.Minimum five (5) years of educational administration experience.Strong organizational skills.Ability to plan and supervise the work of subordinates.Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to analyze data and prepare detailed reports.Ability to work with various community agencies.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Strong knowledge of all Federal and State laws and reporting requirements as they relate to pupil services.Background and experience around supervision and administration of student support staff.Experience in crisis response (preferred).Experience with secondary school counseling (preferred).Strong background on MTSS frameworks.Training and or experience with Culturally Relevant Education (preferred) SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Occasional weekend work required, etc. SALARY/SALARY RANGE:Qualified through NYS School District Leader Certification compensation per Unit 2 contractual agreement ORQualified through NYS Civil Service per Unit 11 contractual agreement ($87,550-118,450) Please apply at our Careers site: www.syracusecityschools.com/jobs
