The Rome City School District is seeking a knowledgeable and student-centered Life Science/Biology Teacher at Rome Free Academy. The selected candidate will provide engaging, standards-based instruction in high school Biology/Life Science courses, including an Academic Intervention Services (AIS) Biology class designed to support students in strengthening content knowledge, improving academic performance, and preparing for the Regents examination. The ideal candidate will foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment while supporting students with diverse learning needs and varying academic abilities. Key Responsibilities: Design and deliver engaging Life Science/Biology instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and Regents expectations. Provide targeted instruction and academic support within an AIS Biology class to improve student achievement and Regents readiness. Differentiate instruction, assessments, and learning activities to meet the needs of diverse learners. Incorporate hands-on, inquiry-based laboratory experiences to promote understanding of biological concepts such as cellular processes, genetics, ecology, evolution, and human body systems. Utilize data, formative assessments, and progress monitoring to guide instruction and support student growth. Maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student engagement and success. Collaborate with colleagues, counselors, intervention staff, and administrators to support student achievement. Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and academic support strategies. Participate in department meetings, professional development opportunities, and school-based initiatives. Support students in meeting graduation requirements and preparing for post-secondary opportunities. Qualifications: Must hold valid New York State Certification in Biology (Grades 7–12) or appropriate Life Science certification. Strong knowledge of New York State Science Learning Standards and Regents examination expectations. Experience differentiating instruction and supporting students with varying academic needs. Ability to create engaging, student-centered science instruction and laboratory experiences. Strong classroom management, communication, and collaboration skills.
