Science Teacher - Grades 7-12 (Leave Replacement Substitute)Substitute Teacher – Job DescriptionThe Rome City School District is accepting applications for a certified Science Teacher for a 6-8 week assignment starting approximately March 2, 2026, at Strough Middle School.Position Summary:The Substitute Teacher is responsible for maintaining an orderly and productive classroom environment in the absence of the regular teacher. This includes implementing lesson plans, managing student behavior, and ensuring a safe, respectful, and supportive learning space.Key Responsibilities:Follow lesson plans provided by the regular teacher to ensure continuity of instruction.Supervise students in the classroom, hallways, lunch areas, and during transitions.Maintain a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere.Provide clear instructions, manage classroom behavior, and enforce school rules and policies.Leave notes for the regular teacher detailing the day’s events, including attendance and any issues.Adapt to various grade levels and subject areas, often with limited preparation time.Ensure the safety and well-being of all students during instructional and non-instructional time.Qualifications:Valid NYS Science (Grades 7-12) or NYS Teaching Certification or preferred.Experience working with children or in educational settings is preferred.Ability to manage a classroom and follow detailed instructions.Excellent communication, flexibility, and problem-solving skills.
