Rockland BOCES has an opening for a School Library System Coordinator Minimum Qualifications:Five years successful experience as a school-based library media specialistExperience facilitating professional development and teaching adult learnersAbility to effectively communicate, written and verballyKnowledge of the Empire State Information Fluency ContinuumEssential attributes include: vision, creativity, leadership, energy and enthusiasm, collaborative and consensus-building skills, flexibility, strong inter-personal skills.Such alternatives to the above which the Board may find appropriate and acceptable Performance Responsibilities:Lead an innovative and accomplished school library system comprised of eight school districts with a focus on building capacity in school libraries.Develop, implement and evaluate the comprehensive vision of school library servicesCollaborate to develop, implement and evaluate a professional development program for school librarians that includes an annual conference and blended learning opportunitiesDevelop, implement, teach and evaluate program resources for school libraries, including school library BOCES CoSers (Cooperative Educational Services)Develop and administer the School Library System budgetDemonstrate leadership in educational technology innovationSeek and administer grants from federal and state funding sourcesMaintain an interlibrary loan program and an updated union catalogGather relevant data and complete the School Library System annual state reportCoordinate and oversee the School Library System Council and the Communications Coordinator LiaisonsOversee the editorial management and production of the School Library System newsletter and an online educational technology research newsletterSeek opportunities to increase the understanding of the essential role of the school librarian in teaching and learningPrepares reports of School Library System activities for the following: Advisory Council, School Chief Officers, BOCES Board of Education and the State Education Department, as required. Visits School Library System members and provides consultant services to districts on a regular basis.Provide guidance and support to districts in integrating the new National School Library Standards and the Empire State Information Fluency ContinuumAny additional duties as assigned by the Director of Instructional Services or his/her designee.WORK YEAR: 10 months CERTIFICATION: New York State certification as a School Library Media Specialist and SAS or SBL required.
