Mill Road Elementary School is seeking a knowledgeable, dedicated, and student-centered Elementary School Reading Teacher to join our literacy team. Responsibilities The Elementary School Reading Teacher will provide specialized literacy instruction and support across the school. Core responsibilities include the following: · Deliver targeted, evidence-based reading intervention and enrichment to students across grade levels based on assessment data and identified need · Apply the Science of Reading framework to all aspects of literacy instruction, including structured approaches to phonological awareness, phonics, decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and reading comprehension · Implement structured literacy programs with fidelity, including Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, or comparable research-based intervention programs · Use formal and informal assessment tools to identify student needs, monitor progress, and adjust instruction accordingly across the full literacy continuum · Understand and apply knowledge of developmental reading milestones and the progression of literacy skills from emergent reading through fluent, independent comprehension · Collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education staff, and school leadership to align intervention with classroom instruction and support a cohesive approach to literacy across the building · Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable resource for classroom teachers, providing coaching, modeling, and professional support around literacy instruction and best practices · Partner with families to explain their child's reading development in clear and accessible language, share strategies for supporting literacy at home, and maintain open and ongoing communication about student progress · Participate in MTSS, contributing literacy expertise to team discussions about student support, intervention planning, and referral decisions · Stay current on research and best practices in literacy education and bring that knowledge back to the school community through professional sharing and collaboration · Contribute to a school-wide culture of literacy that celebrates reading, supports all learners, and reflects the highest standards of evidence-based practice Qualifications · New York State certification in Literacy Education (Birth-Grade 6 or Grades 5-12) or Reading Teacher certification required · Strong, current knowledge of the Science of Reading and structured literacy principles required · Specialized training in Wilson Reading System, Orton-Gillingham, LETRS, or a comparable structured literacy program strongly preferred · Demonstrated understanding of the developmental continuum of reading and writing skills and literacy progression from PreKindergarten through Grade 5 · Experience delivering targeted reading intervention to students with a range of learning profiles, including students with dyslexia and other language-based learning differences · Ability to serve as a collaborative resource and instructional partner for classroom teachers and support staff · Strong skills in literacy assessment, data analysis, and using data to drive instructional decisions · Experience communicating with families about literacy development in a clear, supportive, and empowering way · Familiarity with MTSS frameworks and tiered intervention models · Collaborative, reflective, and growth-oriented professional mindset · Commitment to equity and ensuring every student has access to high-quality literacy instruction regardless of background or ability
