RCS is looking for a dynamic Elementary Special Education teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning, creative and engaging in the classroom, and dedicated to helping all students succeed. Candidates should be innovative in practice, have a strong value in the school community, and have vision in preparing our students to be civic-minded. Successful candidates should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to help students reach high levels of success and must be able to adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, and social studies. The Candidate will be expected to:Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans;Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students;Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student;Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities;Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one;Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress;Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals;Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, and administrators;Complete other duties that support student success;Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly classroom environment;Engage students in the learning process and excite them about college and career possibilities;Provide both academic and behavioral support using a multi-tiered approach (ie. RtI, PBIS); andCreate pathways for students to be career and community aware; promoting a strong sense of civic responsibility QUALIFICATIONS: NYS certification in Special Education (K-2, 1-6)
