RCS is looking for a dynamic Middle School Special Education teacher who is passionate about teaching and learning, creative and engaging in the classroom, and dedicated to providing specially-designed instruction to ensure all students' needs are met.Candidates should be innovative in practice, have a strong value in the school community, and have vision in preparing our students to be civic-minded. Successful candidates should be able to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families to help students reach high levels of success. Candidates must be able to adapt general education lessons and teach various subjects, such as reading, writing, and math, and social studies.Candidate will be expected to: Assess students’ skills to determine their needs and to develop teaching plans Adapt standards-based curriculum to create lessons to meet the needs of students Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for each student Plan, organize, and assign activities that are specific to each student’s abilities Teach and mentor students as a class, in small groups, and one-on-one Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track their progress Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect students’ progress and goals Discuss student’s progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators Participate in building initiatives. Run a highly structured classroom environment with clear expectations, routines, and procedures Complete other duties that support student success QUALIFICATIONS: NYS certification SWD 5-9 or 7-12. (Dually certified SWD with content specialist preferred.)
