Basis Functions:The position of Assistant Principal is a twelve month assignment. The person assigned to this position shall be responsible to the Superintendent of Schools through the Building Principal. The Assistant Principal will assume 6-12 duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools. Preferred Qualifications:New York Certification in Administration and/or Supervision.Evidence of successful classroom teaching experience; preferably at the seconds ry level.High energy level, enthusiastic and self-motivated.Effective communication skills.Ability and interest in working with detail.Good interpersonal skills.Evidence of leadership skills. Duties and Responsibilities: PupilsAssume student discipline responsibility for students in grades 6-12, including discipline for cafeteria infractions by students using the Jr-Sr High School cafeteria, as determined by the building principals.Assume responsibility for bus discipline for students in grades 6-12.Assist in administering the district testing program. Public RelationsAssists in scheduling and coordinating parent-teacher conferences for grades 6-12.Produce articles for the district newsletter.Demonstrate a willingness to become involved in community activities. Curriculum DevelopmentAssist the building principals in monitoring the academic program for compliance with federal, state, and local mandates.Assist the building principals in monitoring the operation of the academic program.Assist in the evaluation of academic program effectiveness.Staff Recruitment and DevelopmentAssist in the responsibility of a new teacher orientation program.Assist the building principal in conducting meetings, faculty meetings and trainings.Assist the building principal with staff recruitment.Assist the building principal with staff evaluation. MiscellaneousAssist the building principal with the updating of student and teacher handbooks.Maintain records of pupil disciplinary activity and actions.Assume other duties as assigned by the building principal or the superintendent.Serve as a member of the Administrative Council.Coordinate district drug and alcohol education program.Supervise and complete APPR for teachers.Assist the Principal in completing the VADIR report.Supervise night events.Serve as test coordinator for Grades 6-12.Investigate bullying complaints/issues.Assume responsibility of building Principal in his/her absence, as necessary.
