JOB DESCRIPTION:1. Performs skilled operations in the repair and overhaul of gasoline and diesel motor equipment, including buses, cars, trucks, tractors, and other road maintenance equipment.2. Repairs or replaces motor pumps, fuel pumps, generators, carburetors, shock absorbers, etc.3. Repairs ignition systems, transmissions, brake systems, clutches, axles, adjusts connecting ro·d and bearings, adjusts steering mechanisms and aligns wheels, greases vehicles, changes oil and oil filters, tunes engine and sets the timing, etc.4. May perform minor body and fender work and may attach and remove snowplow blades and other auxiliary equipment.5. May work as a motor equipment operator when directed.6. Assists in preparation of budgets, estimates and recommendations; maintains preventive maintenance on school buses, and maintains inventory and purchase of vehicle parts and garage supplies.7. Must drive school bus runs as needed.QUALIFICATIONS:1. Thorough knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and accident precautions of one or more of the mechanical or construction trades.2. Thorough knowledge of standard transportation methods and the operation of busses.3. Must hold a New York State Class B Commercial Driver's License with "S," and "P," endorsements.4.
