Library Media Specialist - Part Time (.4)Quogue Union Free School DistrictQualifications-NYS Certification — Library Media SpecialistExcellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, parents, community members, and staff membersResponsibilities-Provide instruction, which is an integral part of the content and objectives of the school's curriculum. Use a variety of instructional methods with different user groups to demonstrate the effective use of newer media and technologies. Use reputable tools to identify and select appropriate resources (i.e., technology, professional journals, etc.).Make resources available to students and teachers through a systematically developed collection within the school and through access to resources outside the school.Act as a resource to assist teachers in the planning and implementing various units of study. Promote literary appreciation with individuals or groups and encourage reading for knowledge and pleasure.Work collaboratively with teachers to coordinate library skills instruction for individual classes or groups. Offer teachers and other staff, learning opportunities related to new technologies, production of a variety of media, and laws and policies regarding information. Offer teachers assistance in using information resources, acquiring, and assessing instructional materials, and incorporating information skills into the classroom curriculum.Organize library resources for easy access.Effectively manages cataloging procedures (i.e., classification, accession, recording, filing, etc.).Establish and maintain effective circulation procedures.Participates in building, district, department, and grade-level curriculum development, professional development, School -wide committees, and projects on a regular basis. Plan and prepare a given Library Media Center budget in such a way that it supports and enriches the curriculum of the school.Assist in identifying, locating, and interpreting information housed in and outside the Library Media Center. Inform teachers, students, parents, and administrators of new curricular equipment, materials and services that meet their information needs Evaluate and select materials and equipment within the scope of the collection providing for all curricular needs, reading levels, and interests Promote positive public relations related to the library media center that lead to understanding and support of the program. Keep building administrators informed concerning the operation and needs of the Library Media Center. Maintain contact with the public library. Organize library resources for easy access with input from the building administration Actively participates in professional organizations; disseminate ideas and information to other professionals.Demonstrate the ability to work with others in a positive and productive way.
