ANTICIPATED OPENINGS 2026-2027 READING TEACHERS (3-POSITIONS) – PROBATIONARY The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District’s Department of Literacy is seeking highly motivated, collaborative educators with expertise in evidence-based literacy instruction grounded in Science of Reading. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong knowledge of structured literacy practices and a commitment to meeting needs of all learners through explicit, systematic and diagnostic instruction. Key Responsibilities: - Deliver explicit, systematic, and cumulative reading instruction aligned with the Science of Reading and NYS Learning Standards - Provide structured literacy intervention (e.g., phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension) using evidence-based approaches - Implement and/or support multisensory structured language programs such as Wilson Reading System®, Orton-Gillingham, or similar methodologies - Use universal screening, diagnostic assessments, and progress monitoring tools to identify student needs and inform instruction - Design and deliver targeted Tier 2 and Tier 3 interventions within the MTSS/Rtl framework - Analyze student data to adjust instruction and monitor growth over time - Collaborate with classroom teachers, ENL staff, and special educators to align core and intervention instruction - Support the development of students’ foundational literacy skills and language comprehension - Maintain accurate records of student progress and intervention outcomes - Foster an inclusive classroom environment that supports diverse learners - Integrate technology and research-based instructional resources to enhance literacy outcomes - Participate in ongoing professional learning related to literacy and the Science of Reading Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Education, Literacy, or related field (Master’s preferred) - Valid NYS certification in Reading or Literacy - Demonstrated knowledge of Science of Reading research and structured literacy instruction - Experience working with elementary aged students - Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills Preferred Qualifications: - Dual certification in Literacy and Special Education preferred - Training and/or certification in Wilson Reading System®, Orton-Gillingham, or other structured literacy approaches preferred - Experience providing diagnostic, prescriptive intervention for students with reading difficulties, including dyslexia - Extensive experience with MTSS/RtI frameworks, progress monitoring tools, and data-based decision making - Experience differentiating instruction for multilingual learners and students with disabilities - Knowledge of evidence-based assessment tools (e.g. phonological awareness, decoding, fluency measures) Locations: Positions #1 & #2 - JJP Elementary School Position #3 - Old Bethpage Elementary School & Stratford Road Elementary School Start Date: August 31, 2026 Deadline to apply: Friday, April 10, 2026
