ANTICIPATED OPENING 2024-2025OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST-PART TIME (.5)The Plainview-Old Bethpage CSD is seeking a skilled and comprehensive part time (.5) School-Based Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our dedicated team. The ideal candidate will be experienced in providing occupational therapy services to students with diverse needs, including those with physical, sensory, cognitive, and developmental challenges. This role requires a collaborative approach to support students’ ability to participate fully in their educational environment. Key Responsibilities: Assessments & Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students’ functional abilities, strengths and challenges. Develop individualized treatment plans based on assessment results. Intervention & Therapy: Provide individualized and group occupational therapy sessions to enhance students’ fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and overall functional performance in the school setting. Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, parents, and other school staff to integrate occupational therapy strategies into the classroom environment. Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings and contribute to the development of IEP goals. Environmental Modifications: Recommend and implement modifications to the school environment to support students’ access and participation. This may include adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and sensory supports.Consultation & Training: Provide expert advice & training to teachers, parents, and other school staff on strategies to support students’ occupational therapy needs. Promote understanding and awareness of the role of OT in the educational setting. Progress Monitoring & Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, therapy sessions, and other relevant documentation. Prepare reports of IEP meetings and other administrative purposes.Professional Development: Stay current with the latest research and best practices in occupational therapy. Participate in ongoing professional development opportunities and contribute to the professional growth of the school community.Crisis Intervention: Provide immediate support and intervention in crisis situations involving students with significant sensory or behavioral challenges.Qualifications: Education: Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.Certification: Valid state license or certification as an Occupational Therapist. Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) is preferred. Skills: Strong assessment and diagnostic skills.Experience in developing and implementing individualized treatment plans.Proficiency in using adaptive equipment and assistive technology.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.Commitment to ongoing professional growth and development.Salary: As per contractDeadline: Tuesday, July 16, 2024
