Duties: The Per Diem Bilingual Speech and Language Evaluator works on a per diem basis for the Guidance & Child Study Center at Putnam|Northern Westchester BOCES. The Bilingual Speech and Language Evaluator uses their skills as an evaluator to perform assessments for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) students that reflect an integration of theory, research and recommended best practices. The goal is to equip school professionals with the knowledge necessary to determine whether a CLD student’s academic learning difficulties are influenced by second language acquisition, the acculturation process, socioeconomic background, instructional experiences, or a disabling condition. The bilingual practitioner needs to:Be knowledgeable about, and familiar with, the examinee’s culture and language.Have knowledge about how culture and language differences affect performance as well as training and education in non-discriminatory assessment.Administer culturally sensitive assessments including, but not limited, to review of the records, dynamic assessments, narrative language samples, cross linguistic analysis and other culturally sensitive measures.Complete necessary documentation/reports in an accurate and timely manner.Communicate with staff from the Guidance and Child Study Center ensure all evaluations are completed according to relevant ethical and professional standards of care.Must be willing to travel to high need areas not limited to, but including, Orange, Rockland, Dutchess, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties.Pay rate is $600.00 per evaluation.Qualifications: Certified as a NYS Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), Teacher of Students with Speech and Language Disabilities (TSSLD), and Bilingual Extension-SpanishCharacteristics Desired: Must have a positive, can-do attitude with commitment to the PNW BOCES core value of pathways to success for every student.
