Duties: The Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI) serves as an itinerant provider for school districts through the Guidance & Child Study Center at PNW BOCES.The Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired (TVI) will provide the following:Educational vision services for students with mandated services.Work closely with the student’s school, teachers, and related services providers to ensure the student will gain the highest level of independence.Assist students to gain full and equal access to the student’s curricula that will be IEP driven.Instruction in Braille, assistive technology, and compensatory techniques.Ensure resources are available for student participation and smooth transitions.Other duties as needed.Qualifications: Must hold valid NYS certification as a Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired (TVI). Training in Orientation and Mobility preferred.Experience and/or knowledge of Assistive Technology is highly desirable. Excellent interpersonal and communication skillsCharacteristics Desired: Must have a positive, can-do attitude with commitment to the PNW BOCES core value of pathways to success for every student. Must value inclusivity, equity and be a champion of students who are marginalized and vulnerable-ized.
