Duties: The Literacy Training Specialist will:Provide professional development, technical assistance and coaching to staff in schools, districts and programs across the Lower Hudson valley on: -- Evidence-based literacy instruction for students with disabilities -- Specially designed literacy instruction for students with disabilities -- Delivery of instruction and assessment within a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support framework -- Fidelity of implementation assessments for core literacy programs and literacy interventionsIn collaboration with other Regional Partnership Center specialists: Conduct regional needs assessments to inform decision-making Facilitate district and school teams in developing and implementing improvement plans that impact literacy outcomes of students with disabilities Monitor implementation of activities and impact on student outcomes Collaborate with Family & Community Engagement Centers to develop and deliver trainings on literacy supports for families of students with disabilities Document work and submit required reports to the NYSED Office of Special EducationQualifications: Master’s degree in special education and/or a literacy related field;A minimum of five years experience as a teacher or related service provider with students with disabilities at the elementary or secondary level;Experience providing professional development and engaging in school improvement work;Preferred qualifications:Experience as a literacy coach or reading specialist;Deep knowledge of the science of reading;Proven track record of improving literacy outcomes for students with low-incidence disabilities such as Autism or Intellectual Disabilities;Experience with progress monitoring tools used in the field (e.g., AIMSWeb, DIBELS, etc…);Experience with tier 2 and 3 reading programs (e.g., Wilson, PAF, Fundations, Waterford, etc…);Knowledge of special education law, regulations and policy;A commitment to the PNW BOCES mission of service and innovation through partnership.Characteristics Desired: Passionate commitment and demonstrated effectiveness in improving literacy outcomes for students with disabilities;Excellent oral and written communication skills;Up-to-date knowledge of research on educational practices;Strong professional development and team leadership skills;Able to participate in one overnight trip to Albany annually, and to travel to schools and districts across Putnam, Rockland and Westchester counties on a weekly basis.
