TEACHER AIDEGENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assists licensed or certified school teachers in theperformance of their teaching functions by performing those nonteaching duties otherwiseperformed by such regular teacher or teachers or may function as a one-on-one aide to astudent in the school district; does related work as required.DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This title is employed for positions created forthe main purpose of relieving school teachers of that part of their duties, which while related tothe teaching process, can be performed by non-professional personnel. Incumbents of thisposition may also be employed as a one-on-one aide for students with special needs, assistingthem in the classroom setting. The duties of this class differ from those of School Monitor dueto the more complex nature of the assignments that are performed. Duties of the schoolmonitor are generally quite limited in scope whereas those of the Teacher Aide often timesrequire specific skills or abilities.EXAMPLES OF WORK: (Illustrative Only)Provides assistance in direct support of a teacher in such matters as checking homework orexamination papers, averaging grades, checking attendance, collecting money, preparingcharts, making up lists, maintaining classroom files, preparing dittos, operating duplicatingmachines;Provides physical aid to the teacher in such areas as maintaining bulletin boards, makingposters, obtaining and returning reference materials, distributing various materials and supplies,setting up audio-visual, computer, television and laboratory presentations, giving personalphysical assistance to individual children (clothing, feeding, wash-up, bathroom) as required.;Assists in proctoring and other tasks related to the administration of examinations;May be assigned to work with children with disabilities as a one-on-one aide, providingassistance with taking notes, helping with mobility issues, assisting with personal care issues,etc.;May provide assistance to students with various disabilities in use of technology and equipmentadaptation to facilitate learning, mobility and/or communication;May maintain order and discipline in the temporary absence of the teacher or in the classroom,hallways, lunchrooms, etc., on either a regularly assigned or occasional basis.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND ATTRIBUTES: Working knowledge inspecific field where specialized duties are involved; familiarity with classroom routine; ability toestablish good relationships with children and others; ability to maintain discipline; clericalaptitude; resourcefulness in conducting above described activities directly related to teachingprocess; good judgment; tact; courtesy; physical conditions commensurate with the duties of theposition.
