The following full-time position is anticipated for the 2026-27 school year, effective September 1, 2026. Music Teacher (Band) The Port Chester Public Schools seek motivated and dynamic educators who will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons to a diverse student population. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and uses instructional materials suitable for verbal and/or visual instruction of students with a wide range of mental, physical, and emotional maturity. Provides individual and group instruction designed to meet individual needs. Directs and instructs students in instrumental music (band) classes, ensembles, and sectionals to promote musical growth and technical proficiency. Plans, coordinates, and directs band performances, concerts, and extracurricular music activities for the school and community. Manages and maintains inventory of all band instruments, equipment, and music library resources. Establishes and maintains standards of classroom management required to achieve effective participation in all activities. Evaluates the academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records. Provides appropriate instruction and activities for students to meet school/district policies, goals, and objectives. Communicates with parents through a variety of means. Attends parent conferences to discuss the individual student's progress and interpret the school program. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or professional growth activities and university courses. Participates cooperatively with the appropriate administrator in the observation process by which s/he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. Demonstrated experience and/or strong interest in the leadership, development, or creation of a marching band program is required, including the instruction, coordination, and direction of performances. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED The position requires: Current NYS certification in the area of Music (All Grades). Demonstrated experience providing band instruction.
