The following full-time position is available for the 2023-24 school year effective November 1, 2023. High School – Art Teacher (Leave Replacement) The Port Chester Public Schools seek motivated and dynamic educators who will be responsible for delivering engaging lessons to a diverse student population. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and administers school art curriculum consistent with the school district goals and vision rooted in the New York State Learning Standards for the Arts. Demonstrates an interest and success in teaching art to High School students. Knowledge of current education instructional methods.Creates a positive classroom culture utilizing effective classroom management which incorporates a student centered and inclusive pedagogy.Differentiates art curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment.Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students, student work and attainment of class requirements. Is willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross curricular learning experiences. Organizes storage areas, keeps accurate inventory of school owned supplies and equipment and controls use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and to minimize time required for distribution and collection.Familiar with constructing project-based learning and inquiry-based learning experiences for students. Plans and presents art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students’ work for the school and the community.Regularly submits and coordinates the submission of student work to outside of school art shows and exhibits. Teaches knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, graphic design, digital media, crafts, photography, art history, and three-dimensional art to High School Students. Familiar with i-movie, Adobe, and Photoshop. Models work for students and conducts ongoing assessment of students’ skills and learning in artistic techniques and expression. Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment.Develops instructional plans and organizes class time to provide a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and working time. Continues to engage in meaningful professional learning opportunities through readings, workshops, podcasts, conferences, and an active My Learning Plan. Encourages family involvement in students’ education; and ensures effective communication with students and families.Cooperation with building administrators and staff in providing art shows for school events, open houses, parent meetings and seasonal programs.QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED The position requires current NYS certification in the area of Art (K-12).
