Middle School Orchestra Teacher and General Music - Music The Port Chester Public Schools seek a talented, innovative, and inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching orchestra to students in grades 6-8 and general music. The successful candidate will help students grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through the learning of string instruments, the general music curriculum and performing other duties directly related to this job description. In addition, the successful candidate will collaborate with school staff to foster an appreciation of music and find ways to connect music to all facets of the school community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Organizes and teaches small group lessons and conducts orchestra to grades 6th -8th grade.- Has knowledge of string repertoire and incorporates all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill level of students.- Utilizes current music technology to deliver innovative project based, culturally responsive music curriculum.- Plans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school and community.- Differentiates music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.- Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal, and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.- Develops and refines music curriculum based on NY State Arts Standards and NAfME’s standards of creating, performing, responding, and connecting.- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, small group rehearsals, group rehearsals, and music performances.- Distributes, organizes, maintains and keeps inventory of school instruments.- Ability to demonstrate and perform on orchestra primary and secondary instrument(s).- Instrumental (Orchestra) conducting experience preferred.- Knowledge of general music curriculums and is able to integrate technology into the curriculum following best practices.- Creates a positive classroom culture utilizing effective classroom management which incorporates a student centered and inclusive pedagogy.- Evaluates each student’s musical growth and contribution to the performance of the group that allows everyone to contribute.- Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students, student lessons schedule and school musical events.- Is willing to collaborate with colleagues to develop cross curricular learning experiences. • Maintains care/responsibility and keeps accurate inventory of school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse.- Cooperation with Head of School and staff in providing musical programs for school assemblies, open house, parent meetings and seasonal programs.
