Position Overview The Port Chester-Rye Union Free School District is seeking an exceptional educational leader to serve as Assistant Principal at Port Chester High School. The successful candidate will be a student-centered administrator with a demonstrated commitment to academic excellence and fostering a positive school culture. The ideal candidate will possess strong instructional leadership skills, significant experience working with multilingual learners/English Language Learners (ELLs), a proven record of improving student attendance, and the ability to leverage multiple sources of data to drive student achievement and continuous school improvement. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with students, staff, families, and community partners to ensure that every student graduates prepared for college, career, and life. Essential Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Support the Principal in implementing the school's vision, mission, and strategic goals. Lead and support instructional initiatives designed to improve student achievement across all content areas. Conduct classroom observations and provide meaningful feedback to teachers that promotes professional growth and instructional excellence. Collaborate with department leaders, counselors, and support staff to monitor student performance and develop targeted interventions. Promote instructional practices that meet the diverse needs of all learners. Support the implementation of district and school improvement initiatives aligned with student achievement goals. Student Achievement and Data Analysis Utilize student performance data, attendance data, behavioral data, and other indicators to identify trends and develop action plans that improve student outcomes. Lead data-driven decision-making processes to ensure continuous improvement in teaching and learning. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic intervention programs. Work collaboratively with faculty and support staff to improve student performance and close achievement gaps. Support for English Language Learners and Diverse Learners Demonstrate expertise in supporting English Language Learners and culturally and linguistically diverse student populations. Partner with ENL teachers, bilingual staff, and instructional leaders to ensure access to rigorous coursework and educational opportunities for all students. Support implementation of research-based instructional practices that improve outcomes for multilingual learners. Collaborate with special education staff to support students with disabilities and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Foster strong partnerships with families of multilingual learners to support student success. Attendance Improvement and Student Engagement Develop and implement comprehensive strategies to improve student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. Analyze attendance trends and collaborate with families, counselors, social workers, and community agencies to remove barriers to student attendance. Establish systems for identifying at-risk students and implementing timely interventions. Foster a positive and engaging school environment that promotes student connectedness and belonging. School Climate, Culture, and Discipline Support the development and maintenance of a safe, respectful, and inclusive school environment. Implement restorative and educational approaches to student discipline while maintaining high expectations for student behavior. Work collaboratively with students, families, and staff to address behavioral concerns and support positive student development. Promote social-emotional learning and student wellness initiatives. Assist in the development and implementation of school-wide behavior expectations and intervention systems. Family and Community Engagement Build strong relationships with students, families, and community stakeholders. Communicate effectively with families regarding academic, attendance, and behavioral matters. Support family engagement initiatives and community partnerships that enhance student success. Demonstrate cultural responsiveness and sensitivity in all interactions. Serve as a visible and accessible presence within the school community. Operational Leadership Assist with school operations, supervision, scheduling, emergency management, and special events. Support state testing, graduation requirements, and compliance with district, state, and federal mandates. Assist with supervision and evaluation processes as outlined by district procedures. Perform other administrative duties as assigned by the Principal. Desired Qualifications The ideal candidate will demonstrate: A successful record of instructional leadership at the secondary level. Significant experience working with English Language Learners and multilingual communities. Proven success in developing and implementing strategies that improve student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism. Strong ability to analyze and interpret data to improve student achievement and inform decision-making. Knowledge of effective interventions for students experiencing academic, attendance, or behavioral challenges. Experience fostering a positive school climate and culture through restorative practices and relationship-centered leadership. Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. A commitment to fostering an inclusive school environment and culturally responsive leadership. The ability to build trust and maintain productive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners. Required Qualifications New York State School Building Leader (SBL) Certification Demonstrated leadership experience at the secondary level preferred. Experience working with English Language Learners and multilingual student populations. Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English. Experience in a diverse and multilingual school setting.
